New Year. New decade. Home remodeling trends, styles, and designs are constantly changing and to get an idea of what’s to come in the next months and years ahead, we’ve done a lot of research, we’ve browsed house design photos and catalogs, we’ve talked to interior designers and real estate agents and we’ve consulted other real estate and construction-related industry professionals. And here’s what we’ve come up with and this is what we estimate will excite homeowners in 2020:

Three-tone kitchens: in the last few years, two-tone kitchens have dominated in popularity and have expanded to include one additional (an even more prominent) color: black or deep blue, or various dark shades. In order to balance out these dramatic darks, you can add warm whites, or light shades – just to keep the kitchen in harmony and looking clean and sharp.

Soft-tone kitchens: not a fan of contrasting colors? Another popular trend are soft colors, hues, features and textures. Pairing soft grays, light pewter, soft white with light-color backsplashes and countertops with light color cabinets can add a refreshing, crisp and clean look. 

All-wood cabinets: there seems to be a revival of full-wood kitchen cabinets with an emphasis of using diverse woods displaying their grain patterns. The naturally rich, warm and always-in-style wood makes it an ideal choice for kitchens. All-wood kitchens pair beautifully with warm whites, warm grays, warm blues and metallic features.

Backsplashes and countertops: you don’t always have to be matchy-matchy with your counter top and backsplash. More homeowners are choosing a slab backslash (concrete, porcelain, quartzite or natural stone) especially in a material with lots of movement to be used as a focal point. Stunning marble or granite makes for an eye-catching design, to be used as an abstract art piece in the middle of your kitchen. In case you feel more comfortable staying within the same color palette, a concrete slab is both sleek, modern and will give your kitchen a major upgrade. Another option is butcher block or wood slab countertops, which will add warmth to an already one-tone kitchen.

Multi-use island: kitchen islands are getting bigger and more functional. Homeowners are opting for super-large islands to accommodate a microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, storage, mini fridge, wine cooler, and even a cook-top. They’re even adding additional space for prepping and cooking, and even a place to sit and eat. 

Statement light fixtures: large pendants, hanging lamps, oversize pendants have become very popular in kitchen remodeling. Make a huge statement with oversize kitchen light fixtures – they’ll basically work like hanging show pieces.
